Copper Panel for Oil Painting

Instead of the more common canvas or wood supports, copper plates have been used as a support for paintings. Copper was extremely popular in the 16th and 17th centuries, and the paintings look as brilliant and colourful today as they did then. It is a fantastic resource to work with. I'll show you how to prepare a copper plate for oil painting in this article.

Copper Preparation for Painting

It couldn't be easier to prepare a panel for painting on. In fact, it requires far less effort than most other supports!

This is what you require:

                     sandpaper made from copper plate

                     Cleaning gloves with methylated spirit

                     ventilation with a lint-free cloth

Because methylated spirit is highly hazardous, working with gloves and proper ventilation is strongly advised.

The surface of an unprepared copper plate is too smooth to paint on. If you do not prepare it slightly, you risk the paint not adhering properly and peeling off when dry. That is absolutely not what we want! So, the first step is to carefully sand the copper surface with fine sandpaper (the finer, the less texture you will have; the rougher, you will see sanding stripes and texture). Make consistent movements to create an even surface. Although not much dust will be removed (do not blow), a texture will form on the copper. These are the 'teeth' that will keep your paint in place. If your panel has sharp edges, sand the sides as well.

Using a glove to protect your hands from the cleaning agent, ladle some onto a towel and wipe around the entire surface of the dish. This will get rid of any dust, grease, or filth. After this point, try not to touch the surface with your fingertips.

You are now prepared to begin painting. Yes, it really is that simple.

A quick Insight on the utility of ACM Panels for artist

For commercial and industrial construction projects, ACM panels are modern and practical cladding materials that are already in use. Traditional building cladding materials are increasingly being replaced by ACM panels due to its numerous advantages, which include weather resistance, low maintenance, aesthetics, and a contemporary appearance. ACM art panels outperform all others in terms of resistance to temperature changes in the surrounding environment. Thermal expansion, or the movement of materials owing to changes in temperature, is reduced by ACM panels. ACM panels, like wood, expand and contract with temperature changes, but they do so much less than wood and thus provide a more stable surface for painting. Unlike other types of art panels, ACM panels for artists don't need to be stretched or re-stretched. What is the purpose of ACM? Aluminum composite material is referred to as ACM. ACM panels are made up of two aluminum sheets linked to a polyethylene core that is
